Mortal Kombat X Online Pro League Preseason Apr. 19th!!

ESL, known for their gaming league tournaments which include the popular moba titles DOTA2 and League Of Legends, are getting ready to bring their brand of pro gaming tournaments to the latest entry in the Mortal Kombat series!!

Kicking their tournament season off with an 8-man offline invitational titled Fatal 8 on April 11th, ESL  Pro League will be hosting several online tournaments just days after the official release of Mortal Kombat X!

The preseason, which starts off Apr. 19th and continues until the 29th, will be open to NA and EU on the Xbox One console(PC for RU only)! As for the decision to choose the Xbox One console, ESL creative producer Joshua Grey gave us an answer on fan site Test Your Might and had this to say:

”  In order to unify our ONLINE players and audience for the first season of a brand new league it was decided we would choose one console platform for NA/EU.

ESL, Warner Bros., and NetherRealm spent a great deal of time researching and deliberating what would be best for an ONLINE league, culminating in a live finals. After months of meetings it was decided to go with the Xbox One for NA/EU for a variety of reasons, including:

The track record of support from Xbox for competitive leagues.

The robust performance of Xbox Live.

The ESL App on the Xbox One.

Was it an easy decision to make? No. The casualty of the console war is a split audience and player base. We knew that any selection we made wouldn’t please everyone.

Do I feel we made the best choice for an ONLINE league? Yes.

In regards to questions about ‘Will we have PS4 and PC (outside of CIS/Russia) as options in the future?’ Let’s make it through Season 1 first.”

For those who are  interested in getting in on the competition, free to enter sign ups are already available on the ESL Pro League website with 167 players already registered for the first competition!

During the preseason, a prize pot of $500 dollars will be awarded with it increasing to $1,000 when they jump into the regular season starting in May!

The season 1 competition will all come down to a Global Finals which will be a 16 man invitational giving competitors a chance at a $50,000 prize bonus which will benefit from on increase on sales of the Sub Zero Blue Steel skin DLC!

You can expect us to keep you updated through out the season as this huge undertaking takes place. Stayed tuned and make sure to go to the ESL Pro Gaming website for more details!
