We can pretty much split these alternative solutions into two sections: powerline and coaxial.
Powerline
Powerline is the easiest solution of the two alternatives to a wired experience as it simply requires you to plug two adapters into any available wall outlets you have in your house. The biggest caveat with powerline adapters is that they rely on good electrical wiring as faulty wiring can in fact cause the same issues as wireless. It can also be a bad idea to use it in an apartment as it can lead to someone gaining access to your internet without your knowledge.

Coaxial
Coaxial is by far the best alternative solution for a wired connection. Like powerline, it relies on wiring that is most likely available in your living space as it uses the same lines as cable tv and satellite. The biggest difference with coaxial are the adapters as they are not all made the same.

DECA
Adapter bandwidth: 100mbit

Deca is a coaxial adapter that was created by Direct TV to work with their special receivers. As you may have already guessed, it was developed to work with the satellite signal which also uses coaxial cables making it a great alternative for a wired solution.
Unlike the other coaxial adapters on this list, Deca adapters are cheap and come with two adapters making it a definite choice for those trying to pinch pennies. This biggest caveat with Deca is that it requires a re-wiring of your cable system to work and it also will not work with a Cable TV signal. Deca also has the slowest connection of the choices though, bear in mind, speed does not matter when it comes to playing games online.

HPNA
Home Phone Network Alliance or HPNA for short is another solution that allows you to use your internet signal over coaxial. Unlike DECA, HPNA can be used directly from a router. ATT U-verse routers especially come to mind as they have the HPNA functionality out of the box. As a result, there isn’t the need for having two adapters. Like Deca, HPNA can take some setting up especially if it was not setup by the provider initially.

MOCA
Moca is probably the most known coaxial adapter on this list. Moca has the functionality of the two aforementioned adapters as it can be used with a Moca compatible router or a second adapter. Unlike the other adapter types, Moca can be used with CableTV as it functions on a different frequency. As a result, no re-wiring or setup is required for Moca to detect the signal.
Moca is not compatible with Satellite, U-verse, and ATT internet services. If there is one big caveat of Moca adapters it is the cost as these adapters are generally over $100 per adapter. With that being said, the speed definitely makes it worth it.
