Curious About Sagat’s Absence?! Ono Explains!!

When it was announced that their would be 8 classic characters returning to Street Fighter V, many like myself believed that Sagat would be making his return.

As the final 16 were announced and the 6 DLC characters after them, it was disappointing to see that Sagat would not be making the initial roster for Street Fighter V. After all, the original 3 members of Shadowloo will be playable this year so why not Sagat?!

Many speculated this somehow was connected to the SFV story line and Sagat’s ties to Shadowloo after SFIV especially with the new second in command F.A.N.G being revealed as the final launch character.

Whatever outcome fans are thinking of SFV producer Ono has explained their reasons behinds Sagat’s absence in a recent interview with Famitsu and the answer is a little surprising to say the least.

“It’s because there are many characters that perform similarly. For this launch and its next update, we wanted to have a good balance of characters. Since we didn’t want to just blindly increase the number of characters, it was a bitter decision that had to be made.”

Ono does add that Sagat’s return is a possibility but for now there will be no more announcements about characters outside of the ones already confirmed.
