SNK Playmore May Not Be Done With 2D After All!!

It is fair to say the initial feedback from the first King Of Fighters XIV trailer was very divided. While many fans were excited to see the franchise make its returns, the decision to change the game visual aesthetic to 3D animation instead of their traditional 2D pixelated animations were upsetting to some.

In a recent interview with GAME Watch, KOFXIV  producer Yasuyuki Oda finally addressed some of the more negative feed back that they’ve been receiving from fans.

“We’ve seen a lot of people rejecting the new look, so we’re constantly working on brushing up the graphics. I believe that by release, everyone will be happy with how the game looks.”

Oda also mentions the importance of making sure that the newest title in the franchise stays true to its roots despite taking a new path in the games visuals.

“We believe it’s important that as soon as you sit down and play the game, you think “This is KOF”, so we’ve been paying a lot of attention to the controls and movement in the game.”

While it was great to hear Oda reaffirming his commitment to making sure KOFXIV will look and play just as great as its predecessors using the new 3D art style, when asked if future titles will only be 3D animation as well, Oda had this to say:

“Not necessarily. It just means that in the future, other SNK titles might potentially be developed with 3D graphics as well.”
